Outbound Caller ID

You can set up caller ID for the entire account, per user, or per device as required. The outbound caller ID will be the number that displays to the recipient when a PBX user makes a call.

Set outbound caller ID for VoIP account

The "main company number" is the default caller ID for the whole account if another caller ID is not defined. See also Main Number.

Best practice

IP Telecom recommends specifically defining the caller ID for the account rather than leaving the setting at default.

Change the caller ID for the account:

  1. Go to Callflows > Account Settings > Caller ID.
  2. In the "Account's External/Off-net Caller ID" section, choose the caller ID from the dropdown. The main company number is the default.

  3. Save changes.

Important

  1. Caller ID "name" does not display on Irish networks, only the number.
  2. If you don't set a defined caller ID, the default caller ID will display.
  3. If you have caller ID set up at the user or device level, this setting will override the account setting here.
  4. Caller ID setting assumes the number you want to display exists on your VoIP account. If it does not, then the default ID will display. Contact IP Telecom if you want to use a number that is not on your account as a caller ID.

Enable outbound caller ID per user (Smart PBX)

If the user has a phone number (DDI) already assigned, simply enable the caller ID feature to display the DDI phone number as the outbound caller ID. If you don't enable this feature, then the main company number will show as the number they are calling from.

If you want to set a caller ID for a user that is different to their assigned number, or use a caller ID number that is already being used in other configuration or call flows, then you must configure this in the Callflows application. See Set a different outbound caller ID per user

  1. Go to Smart PBX > Users
  2. Select the user that you want to update and click the User Features column.

  3. Click Caller-ID and use the toggle to enable the feature.

  4. If there is more than one phone number (DDI) assigned to the users, select the preferred caller ID from the dropdown.

  5. Save your changes.

Set a different outbound caller ID per user

If you want to set a caller ID for a user that is different to their assigned number, or use a caller ID number that is already being used in another callflow, then you must configure the outbound caller ID in the Callflows application.

  1. Go to Callflows > User > Advanced > Caller ID.
  2. Enter the preferred outbound caller-ID for the user. For international numbers, use + format, for example: UK +44xxxxxxx. See UK dialling.

  3. Save your changes.

Caution

Do not use this feature for non-geographic numbers such as 1800 xxxxxxx.
