Configuring your FRITZ!Box in Bridge Mode
How do I configure my FRITZ!Box in bridge mode
Enable bridge mode on your FRITZ!Box if you want it to act only as a modem, letting you configure PPP connection on your own device (router or firewall) that is connected behind.
Info
If you are configuring a new FRITZ!Box, you do not have to set up PPP connection on it prior to enabling bridge mode. Set up the device as usual per Fritz 7530, but cancel the wizard when the interface suggests you to assist with the configuration. After that, proceed with the steps below.
There are two steps to this process:
Enable PPPoE Passthrough on your FRITZ!Box
- Open your web browser (Google Chrome, Firefox,…) and go to the web interface of your FRITZ!Box. By default, you should be able to reach it on http://fritz.box or http://192.168.178.1.
- Log in to the device if requested.
- Click on Internet in the left menu and select Account Information from the menu.
-
In the "Account Information" section, remove the username and password for your connection.
Note
You will not be allowed to leave these fields empty; to bypass this, enter a generic username like '0' or ‘abc’.
-
Scroll to the button How do I configure my FRITZ!Box in bridge mode, click this and scroll again to the PPPoE Passthrough section.
-
Enable the checkbox for "Connected network devices are also allowed to establish their own internet connections (not recommended) option:""
-
Click Apply to save your settings.
- The FRITZ!Box will no longer be establishing the PPPoE connection.
Configure PPP connection on your own device
- Connect a network cable from any LAN port of the FRITZ!Box to your internal network and set up PPP connection on your own device (router/firewall) using the same username and password that were used by your FRITZ!Box.
- After you set up this connection, only your authenticating device will establish PPP session and will get a public IP address.
